Our standard number plate sticky pads are thin 1mm double-sided adhesive pads for fixing number plates to your car. Sold in packs of 10, they're the simple, low-cost way to fit new plates on a smooth, flat surface or to stop screwed-on plates rattling.
Because they're only 1mm thick, they hold the plate close to the car for a neat, almost flush finish.
4D, gel and pressed metal plates, and pads-only fitting
Not sure? Choose standard pads for flat surfaces or as backup to screws. Choose premium sticky pads if your plate area is curved or textured, you're fitting with pads only, or you have heavier 4D, gel or pressed metal plates.
How to fit number plates with sticky pads
Remove the old plate and any old adhesive.
Degrease the surface with isopropyl alcohol or a degreaser. This is the most important step for a strong bond.
Let it dry completely. Pads bond best in mild weather, so fit in a garage when it's cold.
Apply 6 to 8 pads to the back of a standard 520mm plate: one in each corner and two to four along the middle.
Line the plate up and press firmly for 30 seconds across the whole plate.
Leave it 24 hours before washing the car.
For extra security, combine pads with colour-matched poly-top screws. Fitted that way, plates are much harder to knock off or steal.
FAQs
How many sticky pads do I need for a number plate?
Use 6 to 8 pads for a standard 520mm plate. One pack of 10 covers one plate with spares.
Can I reuse sticky pads?
No. Always use fresh pads when refitting a plate.
Will sticky pads damage my paint?
When removed carefully, warming the adhesive and peeling slowly, they shouldn't. Avoid metal tools.
Why did my number plate fall off?
Usually because the surface wasn't clean and dry, too few pads were used, or the car was washed too soon. On curved or textured surfaces, thicker premium pads grip better.
I’d been after a metal registration plate in memory of my 24 year old cat who recently passed away. There was so many companies, but I eventually decided to go with Chase Lane Plates, and I’m so happy I did. Exactly what I wanted, high quality and quick delivery, it now has pride of place on my kitchen wall. I will be ordering another! Highly recommended.
Good sticky pads, work well with multi-surfaces like metal and plastic. The strength is great as my front plate is slightly bending, and they hold on, and make a tight-fitting possible without ugly screws.
Pretty awful to peel and to try stick, peel the red plastic off and 3-4/10 peeled the sticky layer and a layer of the foam with them then actually trying to get them to stick was just as bad, only about 2-3 are holding the plates on either the sticky bit got tore off or they just never took when getting pressed and held they just popped off. Glad i managed to get the both ends and one in the middle to stick but going to have to get different ones and redo it as I've not got any faith in these to keep them on full time, i was expecting to have got out after driving to find a plate or 2 missing. Disappointed in them for the price but the plates are spot on.
