Metal Number Plate FAQs

Are Pressed Metal Number Plates Legal?

Yes, pressed metal plates are road legal in the UK. There are some considerations to keep in mind: black and silver number plates are not legal to use unless your vehicle is registered as a historic vehicle and was built pre-1980. However, standard white and yellow metal plates are suitable for modern vehicles, meeting BS AU 145e standards.

Can I Get Pressed Metal Show Plates?

Yes, you can get metal show plates for your car. These plates don’t have to comply with DVLA regulations, and you can’t display them on your car if you plan on driving on public roads. However, for show purposes such as events and car meets, you can display these.

What Documents Do I Need To Get Metal Plates?

For road legal metal plates, we’ll need your driving license as well as your entitlement document for your vehicle, such as your V5, V778, V750, V948 or V11. This means we can ensure your plates are fully road legal.

You won’t need to submit any documents if you are ordering show plates.

What Sizes And Styles of Metal Plates Are Available?

At Chase Lane Plates, we offer a wide range of sizes and styles of pressed metal plates. This includes the standard 520 x 111mm plate, smaller 420 x 111mm styles for 6-digit plates, square Land Rover plates, American pressed plates, and more.

Can I Use Metal Plates On Classic Vehicles?

Yes, metal plates often look right at home on classic vehicles. If your car was made before 1st January 1980 and is registered as a historic vehicle, you are also eligible to use black and silver plates. They not only meet the legal criteria but also enhance the authenticity and period-correct styling of vintage cars.

How Can I Make My Metal Plates Last?

Metal plates are highly durable and can last for years with proper care. Only wash with mild soap and water and a soft cloth, and consider where you park to protect them from harsh sunlight or temperatures.

Why Should I Choose Metal Number Plates?

Metal plates are a popular choice here at Chase Lane Plates thanks to their durability and aesthetic appeal. The raised characters add a new dimension to number plates that are at a lower risk of flaking or peeling. Plus, they’re ideal for classic cars, adding authenticity and additional aesthetic appeal.
