Can’t find answers?

Don’t worry, our team at Chase Lane Plates can help.

What are 4D number plates?

4D plates are simply a sharper version of 3D gel plates. They are manufactured using a professional laser cutter that cuts through hard acrylic as opposed to the raised gel letters found on 3D plates. While the characters are presented in the compulsory black typeface, they’re often backed by another colour beneath for a stylish ‘3D Plus’ effect, not commonly seen on the road. This can be perfect if you’re looking to show off your new private plate and catch the attention of other motorists.

Innovative 4D plates can be found with a variety of different finishes for added customisation. We can provide these in Topaz Blue, Ruby Red, Sunset Orange and Neon Yellow.

Can I use a pressure washer on 4D plates?

4D plates are not hard to clean at all. We’ve rigorously tested our number plates with pressure washers and they withstood the pressure without any issue!

Will the letters fall off a set of 4D plates?

Whilst we cannot comment on our competitors, our 4D plates use super-strong adhesive to attach the letters to the plate which we expect to last many years, many of our competitors claim to use 3M, we do not. 3M is a sticky tape not designed for number plates and offers no guarantee for such items, we use AB Adhesive, which is specifically designed for number plates and we are yet to hear of letters falling off any of our number plates!

Can I have a shortened 4D number plate?

Of course… We have various options available in terms of size and our most popular is a 16inch (6 digit) reg plate.

What’s the difference between road legal and show?

Show plates don’t carry the BSAU stamp nor our company name, therefore they are not road legal, the are designed to hang on doors or for temporary use on cars when stationary at a car show.

How long will the plates take to arrive?

We usually ship orders on the same day if ordered before 11am using the Royal Mail. Orders can take up to 5 working days to arrive from the date of order, but delivery is typically made in 2-3 working days depending on the postage option you choose.

Why are your metal pressed plates so cheap compared to others?

We believe in being fair and not greedy. We source our metal plates from one of the biggest manufacturers in Europe, we buy in bulk so we can pass the savings onto you. They are the best metal plates in the business.

Are your metal number plates fully road legal?

We guarantee that our metal number plates are 100% road-legal. Our plates also contain our DVLA-registered postcode and BSAU145d mark, this is applied using laser technology to make it less obtrusive.

Are 4D number plates road legal?

The DVLA has deemed 3D number plate designs as road legal if they conform to the government regulations. These rules are designed to ensure the plates are easy to read by authorities and other motorists during both day and night. This being the case, the same rules also apply to the legality of 4D plates.

Providing they conform to the rules regulating UK number plates, 4D plates are entirely legal to use on your car. For example, the acrylic characters must be presented in black on a white plate at the front of your vehicle and black on a yellow plate at the rear, both manufactured from reflective material. The characters must also follow the rules that dictate the measurements of letters and numbers, as well as the margins surrounding them.

The 4D characters on your plate must also be in the Charles Wright font to be up to standard. To ensure this, 4D laser-cut number plates are created using professional equipment that provides an exacting standard of laser cutting, precisely matching the Charles Wright Font used as standard on UK number plates.

The material of the plate the 4D characters are attached to must also meet the same high level of British Standard (BS AU 145d) in order to be legal. This is NOT a guarantee with cheaper suppliers because they WILL cut corners by using sub standard materials. We at Chase Lane Plates can provide a certificate to show we have used the correct materials that conform to DVLA standards.

I want a style but it’s not on the plate builder, can you help?

If you have a particular need that you don’t see on our site feel free to contact us and we will assist you in your search and if we can supply what you’re looking for.

Do you have next day delivery?

Yes we do, next day delivery is 7.99.

Why do you need my documents?

We need your documents because it’s a legal requirement and as a number plate supplier we are bound by the DVLA to take them. We also take the registration number from the document so please ensure that you send the correct documents as we CANNOT refund you or make a replacement set if you have sent the incorrect documents.
